Mark DeTroia is a New Jersey native and the president and founder of Upcycle. He graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the well-respected Montclair State University in New Jersey. Following graduation Mark DeTroia began his career as an Investment Operator, a position that he resided in for nearly five years. After working as an Investment Operator, Mark founded Upcycle, an IT Asset Disposition company that he currently owns and operates. He has over a decade of experience in the recycling industry, with his experience paralleling the development of his company Upcycle.
Upcycle, established in January of 2011, serves as a reflection of Mark’s strong core values. While they provide several services, Upcycle’s principles are built around delivering an easy, economical, and environmentally friendly way for businesses and schools to dispose of their e-waste. Mark is a firm believer that when given the opportunity to do the right thing, people will choose to do so, and following this concept, he built a company founded upon that idea.

Through his work and personal life, Mark hopes to make a positive impact and often collaborates with charities inside and outside of Upcycle. He is an active member of the community, participating in several community activities in the New Jersey area from the local Trunk-or-Treat to the Annual tree lighting. His company Upcycle also participates in charity events and notably donated Chromebooks to New Century Education recently. The donated laptops are set to assist returning citizens find work, homes, and other necessary components for reintegration into society. Mark’s company, Upcycle’s, headquarters locally reside in Fairfield, New Jersey, near Mark DeTroia’s hometown of Roseland, New Jersey.
The level of diligence seen in Upcycle’s efforts towards creating a comprehensive and steady quality of work reflects the pride Mark takes in being a vested member of the Upcycle team. His employees look to him as a mentor, and he works to instill an incredible and solid familial work culture in and out of the company. He believes in a good work-life balance, and when Mark isn’t managing Upcycle, he spends his time with his family in his local area in New Jersey.
Mark DeTroia has a wife and three young kids he enjoys spending time with in his hometown, Roseland, New Jersey. When he isn’t spending time with his family at their home, they enjoy summers spent on the beach and other outdoors activities.
It was in his hometown that Mark first became involved with sports and he has maintained an interest in athleticism since his early youth. He played soccer at the college level and remains active to this day. As a former collegiate soccer player, Mark will take any opportunity to return to the soccer field to play a pick-up game or two. He stays active outside of Upcycle by biking and swimming in his spare time. The rest of his spare time is spent reading.
Mark DeTroia is an active member of the New Jersey community and the founder of Upcycle. He encourages companies, schools, and hospitals to rethink how they deal with tech waste and end of life equipment. He hopes to inspire more organizations to consider better options like recycling that are both economically and environmentally friendly.
